Antique BECKHUSON of OXFORD England Swivel Breech Percussion Pistol Engrave
.35 Caliber Superposed British Self-defense Pistol!
Here we present an antique Engraved Beckhuson Swivel Breech Percussion Pistol made circa 19th century in Oxford. Not much is known about Fredrick Rodolph Beckhuson except that he was a gunmaker. This pistol was small enough to fit inside a coat or pants pocket and benefitted from a double barrel rather than a single, which was rather the norm in those days. Superposing the barrels one over the other still made for a slender overall package. This pistol operates by manually cocking the hammer after the first shot, then rotating the barrel cluster to present the next one ready to fire. There is nice scroll engraving on the frame and the end of the barrels. The barrels read “Beckhuson” and “Oxford”. Even the Hammer showcases fine little details.
The overall condition is Good. The action is strong all around. The bores are dark with age. The folding trigger is a nice feature! There is a screw on top of the frame, just behind the breech that is a placeholder. It does not thread due to its being oversized. Still good threads that a screw may be found to fit. A handsome little pistol from Oxford, England!
