Description:
“101 RANCH” WILD WEST SHOW Double Barrel HAMMER Shotgun PONCA CITY OLKAHOMA

Used in the MILLER BROTHER’S 101 RANCH WILD WEST SHOW!

Here we present a 101 Ranch of Ponca City, Oklahoma used Double Barrel Side by Side Shotgun, made at the turn of the 20th Century in Belgium.
After "The winning of the West," something new was added to the American scene with the birth of the Wild West Show. Names such as Buffalo Bill Cody, Pawnee Bill, and Colonel Cummins are synonymous with many shows that were to become part of the nation's popular entertainment. The Miller Brother's 101 Ranch “Real Wild West Show” stands out as one of the last truly epic Western extravaganzas. From its inception in 1904 to its last hurrah in 1939, some of their events over-shadowed even the famous Buffalo Bill!

101 Ranch was founded in 1879 by Confederate veteran Col. George W. Miller—it wouldn’t be until 1904 when the idea of the Wild West show was implemented. At its peak Ranch 101 was a sprawling 110,000 acres of land both owned and leased. It seasonally employed two to three thousand people, of which were ranch hands and performers in the Wild West Show. There were close to 80,000 people on the ranch opening day in 1905, and no wonder with such attractions as the Apache prisoner Geronimo, Buffalo Bill, Tom Mix, Bill Pickett and Lucille Mulhall, plus a buffalo hunt and barbecue that almost involved military intervention, Indian sports and dancing, riding and roping contests, bands and a gigantic parade! Bill Pickett, referred to as the “Negro Cowboy,” made the 101 Ranch and “Round-Up” famous because of his cowboying and “bulldogging” technique. He went to work on the 101 Ranch in 1905 and remained there for thirty years. From 1905 to 1939 the 101 Ranch Real Wild West Show thrilled audiences and gave life to a period in American history and a way of life that was quickly becoming more civilized.

“LIEGE-BELGIQUE” is marked on the left barrel. “HJA” can be read atop the rib. “STAGE TROOP MEMBER/RL STERNS” is found on the cheek piece. The bottom of the buttstock is stamped “PROP MILLER BROS 101 RANCH”. The right side of the stock is marked "101 RANCH" followed by "PONCA CITY OKLA" at the wrist with a tacked on 101 Ranch pin near the toe.

The overall condition is good. The actions function. The bores are in good shape. The locks are lightly engraved. The pin features a large steer above the 3 Millers brothers, Joe, George, and Zack. An exciting piece to own and perfect for an Old West display!
