Description:
The Smith & Wesson "U.S." American Model  transcends  the "normal" collecting genres and draws interest from U.S. Military Collectors,  Indian War collectors as well as Smith & Wesson collectors.  These U.S. American Model pistols saw service all the way through the Indian Wars including the Battle of Little Bighorn.    Considering the time period,  the frequent use and extremely harsh conditions,  this is an Excellent and Original example worthy of the most advanced collection.

The Historical  Letter confirms the Serial Number 1947,  8 inch barrel,  "Nickle Finish",  and Smooth Walnut Grips,
and  that
it was sold on March 16, 1871,  and shipped to the United States Government,  National Armory...
these Single Action's were issued two years prior to the Colt 1873 Single Action...
An incredibly Rare Surviving example of a "Nickle"  Documented,  Colorful,  Calvary Issued,  "U.S.  Contract"  Smith & Wesson.
