Being offered for sale is a excellent example of a Remington 1863 Mfg Zouave rifle. Remington produced a limited number of 12,500 rifles between 1862-1863 during the US Civil War, this example is all original and appears to be in "unissued" excellent condition.
Wood is in excellent condition with fine RK cartouche opposite of lock, barrel retains 90% of its original brown/lacquer finish with some minor patina spotting on the top of the mid barrel area. Bore is fine, barrel/inspector markings are all present and clearly visible/legible. Lock plate shows typical spotty patina-discoloration and across the entire lock plate, however, all Mfg markings are present and legible. Note the sub-iinspector's letter "L" on lock plate, rear sight, front of trigger guard tang.
