GERMANIC Antique Jaeger DOUBLE RIFLE by B. & E.W. PISTOR from Schmalkalden
ENGRAVED, CARVED Gold Inlaid, from Schmalkalden, GERMANY
Here we present an antique B. & E.W. Pistor Jeager Double Rifle, made circa 1850 in Schmalkalden, Germany. This specimen is a scarce and great example of a German double rifle from this period. It features high relief carvings on the stock, signed and gold filled barrels, and engraved locks. The hammers each feature a creature’s head. The barrel rib is signed in large script “B & E.W. Pistor in Schmalkalden” while the right lock bears the makers’ names and the left lock “Schmalkalden”. The right side of the stock features a sliding wooden patchbox while the left includes a large, flat, and smooth cheek rest. The original leather sling accompanies this gorgeous piece of history. This side by side gun features 31-inch barrels in .56 caliber. Triggers for each barrel. The front sight is a single blade and the rear sight is a single notch. This gun would have been intended for hunting large game for the table as well as protection for the homestead.
The overall condition is good. The stock has been repaired in several places: the right side of the heel of the butt stock, under the right lock, and on the left side of the forearm. Both locks remain strong. Both bores are in great shape, being nicely rifled and very shootable.
