ORIGINAL CIVIL WAR SPRINGFIELD U.S. MODEL 1861 RIFLE MUSKET DATED 1862. 40” rifled .58 caliber barrel with the original front and rear sights. Lock plate date “1862” and stamped “U.S./SPRINGFIELD”. All original including the ramrod. Very good overall with dark “attic” patina on metal and stock with the original finish with nice old handling patina. Old of the period of use initials “A.W.H.” carved on the side panel which is more often seen on Confederate arms than Union. Lock in working order. Bore dark with worn rifling. Scarce original early Civil War Model 1861 Rifle Musket.
