Description:
1700s Antique KETLAND & Co. FLINTLOCK Pistol Colonial PIRATE .61 Caliber

Belt-Sized Single Shot Pistol!

Here we present an antique W. Ketland & Co. marked Flintlock Pistol, made circa the late 1700s to early 1800s in turn of the century England. Ketland & Co. operated in Birmingham, England, from the late 1700s and to the early 1800s to become one of the most prominent and active British makers of the day. John and Thomas Ketland were the sons of Thomas Ketland and grandsons of William Ketland, who had been making locks and guns for the colonies since the early 18th Century. This pistol comes from the period of the British Empire, the Revolutionary War, piracy along major trade routes, and the discovery of new lands.

The lock plate is marked "W. KETLAND/& Co" ahead of the hammer. Faint engravings and “LONDON” can be seen atop the barrel. The left rear side of the barrel is stamped with pre-1813 proof marks. The barrel, trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are iron, and the remaining parts are brass.

The overall condition is good. The action is strong (cock/trigger) though the frizzen spring is missing the top leg. The bore is smooth and dark. There is a thin crack that wraps around the stock in front of the lock just behind the ramrod. Stable. A very nice flintlock pistol from London and an age of explorers, pirates, and colonial conflict!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 9 inches.

Caliber: .61

Overall condition as seen in photos.
