Description:
For sale is this cased Westley Richards Takedown Bolt Action Rifle built on a Mauser Action in .318 Accelerated Express Caliber. This rifle was manufactured in London, England around 1908. The rifle features a blue refinish, 26" take-down barrel, raised bead top blade front sight with pivoting hood and flip-up moon sight, raised express rear sight with fixed leaf marked for 100 yards, two folding leaves marked for 200 & 300 yards, and two empty slots for additional folding leaves. The rifle also features a standard-length Mauser action, polished bolt with turned down handle & horn knob, two-position safety, serrated trigger, beautifully checkered walnut forend with horn tip, straight shoulder stock with horn pistol-grip cap, inlayed oval escutcheon, sling eye, and red rubber recoil pad. The LOP is 13 1/8" to the end of the butt-pad. The barrel is engraved "WESTLEY RICHARDS & CO LONDON." & "W.R. PATENT DETACHABLE BARREL 1983". Action states “WESTLEY RICHARDS/ 318 ACCELERATED/ EXPRESS". Includes a vintage leather wrapped locking trunk case with green felt interior. Also includes a spare polished bolt with outward swept butter knife style handle. The bluing is about 97% as refinished with light scattered handling marks and very minor pitting on triggerguard. Action is smooth and excellent; the bore rifling is nearly excellent with the exception of some minor frosting in some of the grooves and lands towards the muzzle. The stock is nearly excellent with a few minor handling marks and one dent in the horn forend tip left side. Overall condition is 97%+.
