Description:
This is a Western Arms Colt Model 1862 Pocket Police .36 Caliber Percussion Revolver still in its original box with all the paperwork.  These were built by Uberti for the importer Western Arms in Santa Fe NM to a very high degree of quality.  The Italian date code is AE which is 1979.  This one has a real color case hardened frame, loading lever, and hammer just like the originals.  Even the brass grip straps are silver plated.  The box is in fairly good shape for a Western box as the material was thin there is a break in the red plastic tray where the hammer rests which is common on these.

When I was a lot younger, I remember the old-timers who used to shoot black powder speak highly of these Western Arms Reproductions and lament that they were no longer made.  Apparently, Olin Winchester sued them over the name "Western" which was one of their lines of ammunition.  They were around from about 1978-1982 and their big claim to fame was their Hawken Rifle.  After they lost their name, they stayed in business for a short time as Allen Firearms before being bought by Cimarron in the mid-late 1980's.  Of course, Western was the importer as they were made by Uberti made but what amazes me about them is the quality and attention to detail that went into these.  A lot of importers back in the 80's were more concerned about price than they were quality.  Western was just the opposite...everything they put their name on was a cut above the rest and still are today.  For example,  when is the last time you saw an Italian reproduction Colt with a silver plated trigger guard and backstrap that is true to the original Colt Percussion Revolvers of the 1850's and 1860's? Both of these are silver plated which cost Western more.  Also, look at the angle of the grain in the grips?  They slant running almost parallel with the gripsstraps just like the original Colts.  You'll see a lot of Replicas with grain running almost straight up which are prone to breaking and some even have knots.  The actions on these are also really nice.  These were made to compete with the 2nd Generation Colt Reproductions as a high quality but more economical  alternative.  They are very close to a Colt 2nd Gen 1862 which were also made from Uberti parts, just assembled and finished in the USA in the old Iver Johnson Factory.  Today, Western Arms Replicas are not easy to find, especially one unfired in the box.
