Description:
NSN, .303 British, 28" barrel with a bright excellent bore. This handsome rifle has about 70-75% of the original blue remaining, mostly on the barrel, with the balance flaked speckled gray, most noticeably on the receiver ring. There are some scattered areas of mild freckling and gray fading throughout, and some small surface scratches here and there as well. The walnut stock and handguards have an old added armory oil finish over numerous small handling marks minor surface blemishes. Canadian unit markings are present on the right side of the buttstock (as well as a “QUEBEC" cartouche), with further U.S. Ordnance Dept. markings on the underside of the wrist applied when the rifle was issued as a training and reserve rifle during the initial build-up to U.S. entry into World War I. This is a great example of a Canadian and U.S. marked Mk. II*** Ross military rifle in very good plus condition overall, and would make a splendid addition to either a Commonwealth or U.S. military collection. This rifle has been test fired and it appears that the chamber was expanded some and the cases come out oversized and sometimes split. NOT recommended to fire. FFL or C&R
