#301962, A. H. Fox Gun Co., Phila, Pa. U.S.A.: A 16 Bore A Grade That Remains in Excellent Condition, It was shipped July 9, 1924 to E. K. Tryon Co. in Philadelphia, 28" Extractor Chromox Fluid Compressed Steel Barrels at .666" .011 & .020" (Skt.II & Imp.Mod), 2 3/4" chambers, The forcing cones very professionally opened, Double triggers, Splinter forend with a Deeley & Edge forend release, Pistol grip stock at 14 3/16 x 1 5/8 x 2 15/16" over the factory hard buttplate, 5 lbs. 14 oz., The barrels have 92% original factory blue, It retains a strong 75% original case colors, The butt and forend have been very well re-oiled but not sanded down and it now remains at 98%, The checkering is at 100%, The bores are excellent plus, bright and shiny without any pits or dings, The breech face retains 75% case colors, The trigger guard & tang retain 90% original blue, It remains tight on the face, It is as tight as day one with the toplever far to the right. There are a lot of overused and screwed around with Fox guns on the market, but this is one very nice piece. This is an honest A Grade 16 bore Fox from a classic era of Americana. The price of this A Grade in 1924 was $62.00. This very piece is lettered by Mr. John Callahan.

The Edward K. Tryon Company was a sporting goods retailer and wholesaler located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They were in business under various Tryon names from 1811 (Philadelphia had a population of 97,000) until sometime in the mid to late 1950s. Edw. K. Tryon was the largest sporting goods retailer in the United States and possibly the world for some time. Their primary business was firearms and hunting related items, but they also sold and produced a wide variety of outdoors and sports items. They had a 125th anniversary celebration in 1936 and produced catalogs until at least some time in the mid to late 1950's.
