Description:
This large D-Guard Fighting Knife came to us along with the Providence Tool Co. 1861 Rifled Musket listed here on G.I.  The family had no history on it other than the grandfather that had owned it had possesed it for as long as they can remember, 60 years or more.  It appears to be antique and blacksmith-made.  It shows a lot of honest age and patina, along with old paint splashes it picked up somewhere along the way.  The Walnut handle is solid and tight to the knife, with a thru tang that is peened to the D-guard.  The handle has some old brass tacks in it for added grip/texture, they too show age and corrosion. The blade is sharp and free from any cracks or chips in the metal.  The tip portion of this fighting knife is interesting in that it is only beveled on one side on the top edge.  This can be seen in the pictures provided.  There are no maker marks, initials, or names on any part of this knife.  This antique fighter comes with a homemade tin scabbard that the grandfather made for it sometime in the late 1970's or 1980's.  This big fighting knife has a great look to it and would display nicely on a bookshelf or with other Civil War artifacts.
