Description:
This spectacular Smith & Wesson Model 52-2 was bought new and put into storage, only having been fired a handful of times.  It is as minty and beautiful an example as we have seen in a long time and it comes complete with it's original box, owner's manual, factory ammo pamphlet, bushing wrench, and extra magazine.  The S&W Model 52 was introduced in 1963 as the firm's top-of-the-line automatic target pistol.  Designed to fire special wadcutter ammunition, it was very unique in that it used a rimmed revolver cartridge in an automatic handgun.  The S&W Model 52 quickly earned a reputation for being an extremely accurate pistol that was very well made and handsome.  During the production run of the Model 52 there were two additional engineering changes incorporated resulted in the Model 52-1 and the Model 52-2.  This particular example is a Model 52-2, the most refined version of the model.  The Model 52-2 incorporated a grooved receiver for removeable counter-weights as well as a new extractor design that reduced breakage and improved reliability.  The original gloss blue factory finish on this gun is really spectacular, rating 98% plus only a few tiny spots of finish wear on the right side of the slide in the groove behind the muzzle.  This is the most frequent spot for this model to show wear, as metal to metal contact occurs here even when the action is worked by hand.  The rest of the gun shows no finish wear whatsoever, including the front and rear gripstraps.  The bore in this S&W is minty and mirror-bright.  The rifling is still like-new and sharp throughout the 5" inch barrel and there are no visible imperfections or erosion.  The factory checkered wood grips are like-new, free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or visible wear of any kind.  The checkered panels are still crisp and clean, and both S&W medallions are in-place and in excellent shape.  The action on this Model 52-2 is so slick and smooth it feels like the slide is riding on ball bearings.  The barrel and slide lock-up is perfect and tight with no wiggle or sloppiness.  You can really feel how well these guns were made and how expertly-fit they were.  All of the controls on this gun are in perfect working order, including the sight adjustments.  We have no doubt that this gun would fire just as reliably and accurately now as the day it was made.  If you have been looking for a true "collector-grade" S&W Model 52 for your collection here is your chance to get a real diamond.  For all intents and purposes it would be impossible to upgrade from this gun.
