Description:
Serial #61041, .450 CF, 5" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has spots of mild freckling within the grooves. This is a handsome revolver that retains 85-90% of the original bright nickel finish with the balance flaked to mottled plum-brown, especially along the front of the frame and on the trigger guard. The revolver has beautiful floral scroll, and geometric engraving throughout, and is retailer marked along the top of the barrel: “I. HOLLIS & SONS, LONDON". The frame has the usual Tranter “football" marking on the right side, and the barrel is caliber marked: “450". The original ivory grip has a creamy age patina, with floral pattern metal brad designs applied to both sides (there are a few brads missing, but the designs are intricate and expertly done). The action lock-up is still tight, and the mechanism is fully functional. This is the very gun pictured on pg. 138 and 139 of “Tranter Cartridge Firearms" by Black, Guerin & Michaud; 2007, and would make a nice addition to any collection of Tranter handguns. Antique
