Description:
This appears to be a 1740 or soDutch musket that the British gave to the colonies of America to fight the French, and Indians as they didn;t give up their Brown Besses as England was at wwar all over the world rrying to keep control of it's colonies as well as fight the French on all frints , and along it's life this musket was surcharged US during the Rev, War. Most likely converted down South at the beginning of the Civil War. Looks like about .75 cal on the heavy 41 1/2" barrel with exterior metal in brown patina . The surcharged lock is working well, with a black smith made hammwr and a pistol size nipple.Verifing the Southern use during the C. W. The original full stock has chips, and slivers along the barrel channel, Comes with what appears to be original brass furniture aged a deep mustard color . The side lock screws has brass escheceons and the front lock screw is longer. The ram-rod looks very old and would work but the tip is chipped or damaged . This is a rare gun! REv War use and C.W use also. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
