Colt Single Action Army; Serial No. 95685; Originally Shipped to U.S. Government July 20, 1883; Page 510 in Graham, Kupec, and Moores text, “A Study of the Colt Single Action Army” Indicates that the State of Virginia was Issued Calvary Models - Instead of Issuing to Their Militia, the State Immediately Traded them to New York City Arms Dealers; These Guns were Nickel Plated, Barrels Cut to 5”, Grips Varnished, and ‘U.S.’ on Frame Engraved Over; I have Personally Seen Several Identically Altered Arms and Believe this to be One of the Traded Virginian U.S. Calvary Guns; This Gun Retains Most of the N.Y.
