Description:
First year production Colt Model 1877 in .38 caliber, known as the "Lightning" to collectors, which the marketing name given to it by Benjamin Kittredge who was a major Colt Firearms distributor during this period. The serial number 3048 matches on the frame, triggerguard and backstrap with the last two digits on the back of the cylinder and on the bottom of the barrel (dinged up), under the base pin. Comes with a Colt Archive letter that confirms its features as .38/c caliber, barrel length is not listed, nickel finish and rubber stocks that fit perfectly. These are the scarce, one piece rubber stocks that were only used on a few hundred guns in the earliest years of production. This Colt was shipped to Meyer and Geiger in Omaha, Nebraska on November 2, 1877 as part of a 100 gun shipment. The action functions properly in both single action and double action. The bore is dark and has a fair amount of black powder corrosion. The markings are all clear and readable including the etched panel on the barrel. There is a high percentage of original nickel finish with flaking on the cylinder. Price includes insurance and shipping to the continental United States where legal. A three day inspection is offered with full refund if returned unfired in the same condition. Buyer to pay return shipping. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional photos.
