Description:
1700s BRASS BARREL FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS Seven Years War, Revolutionary War

18th Century London Proofs

Here we present an antique British Flintlock Blunderbuss, made circa the mid-to-late 18th Century in London, England. This was a period full of turmoil for Britain as she faced internal, Continental as well as Colonial warfare. The Jacobite Rising of 1745 internally, Seven Years War (1756-1763) globally, the French & Indian War (1754-1763) in North America, the American Revolutionary War (1775-1883), the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815), just to name a few. Of course, piracy was also rampant and Britain continued to rely on its historically strong Navy.

The blunderbuss is a firearm with a short, large bore. They are flared at the muzzle, frequently throughout the entire bore, and used with shot and other projectiles. The blunderbuss is commonly considered to be an early predecessor of the modern day shotgun, with similar military and defensive use. It was used in many capacities, not the least of which were for naval boarding or defending by pirates and navies alike!

The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bore is in great shape. “LONDON” is engraved on the top of the brass barrel and 18th Century London proofs are marked on the left side of the barrel. An impressive and brilliant piece of British Naval history!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 16 inches.

Overall condition as seen in photos.
