Description:
KAWAGUCHIYA FIREARMS CO. (MIROKU) L III MOD. 53 COGSWELL TYPE 12GA. BOXLOCK 28" STRAIGHT GRIP SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN,CIRCA 1960'S. Made by the same manufacturers of Winchester and Browning shotguns. Identifying marks besides "Model L III" on both receiver sides include matching serial numbers(to tang and forend hardware) and on barrel flats "70mm(2 3/4"), caliber "12", "SP" in circle with trident over and "NP" under that, and what I think is an "H" in concentric circles(for Hibiki). Same serial number on water table along with same Hibiki logo in concentric circles again(all crisply struck). Just a note that photos show only grease on barrels flats and watertable so not rust or corrosion so properly stored with rig or similar. Barrels are also choked "IMP" and "FC"(full) and do correspond to current constrictions. 28" barrels with original blue at 99% and engraving at breech block onto third fastener(match engraving on receiver). Splinter forend with English style checkering crisply cut like day it was applied with what looks like horn forend cap. Anson & Deeley style boxlock receiver in same excellent condition with scroll engraving hand cut and crisp. Traces of case color in recesses. Dbl triggers. Tang safety. Extractors. Lever right of center and very tight lockup. Straight english grip stock expertly checkered(like forend) and crisp. 14 3/4" length of pull and normal stock dimension for righty. Brown Decelerator 1" pad added(included in 14 3/4" LOP). Brass escutcheon plate un-engraved. I cannot stress enough how much like an english made shotgun this is. We ofcourse has seen thousands of Spanish and Belgian made shotguns over the years but this one through us for a loop for awhile and were aghast at finding out it was Japanese made. Works perfectly and swings like any other high quality game gun. Weighs 7 lbs. I dare you to find any classic game gun that exemplifies the English style shotgun this well made for this price. It's a shame they only bring this much for for what your getting.
