Description:
This is a pre-war Winchester model 61 pump rifle in .22short, .22long or .22long rifle. Manufactured in 1936 by Winchester in response to the offerings by Reminington and Marlin. It is pump opperated in via a slide underneath the barrel and is fed by a tube magazine. This particular model 61 is in fantasic condition with the barrel and reciever retaining about 90% bluing. It has some strong wear marks on the barrel from where the fore end has worn the finish away. The magazine tube has seen the most wear as is retains about 70%bluing. The wood is in wonderful condtion with a handsome grain. Their are some nicks and scratches but over all the wood retains nearly all of the original varnish finish. It has the pre-war steel butt plate with visible fine checkering. Mechanically the rifle is in excellent condition. The rifling is strong with a wonderful and clear bore. This is an excellent Winchester model 61 and would be perfect for a collection or an excellent rifle for small game hunting just as it was intended for back in 1936.
