Description:
This is a beautiful original 1954-production Marlin Model 39A Mountie lever-action carbine in .22 rimfire.  This little 2nd-year-of-production carbine is a true survivor with handsome all-original finishes and only one modification since leaving the factory, two holes drilled and tapped in the top of the receiver for a standard Marlin 39A scope mount.  The "Mountie" version of the Model 39A was introduced in 1953 and remained in production for only 4 years before being discontinued in favor of the Golden 39A Mountie, the most common Mountie model that was in production for 15 years.  The Model 39A Mountie shared the same receiver and action of the standard Model 39A but featured a shorter "carbine style" 20" inch round "Micro-Groove" rifled barrel instead of the 24" standard barrel, and had a straight-gripped smooth American Walnut buttstock with a slim and smooth American Walnut forearm instead of a pistol-grip Walnut stock with a large forearm.  The Mountie retained the one-screw take-down design, the factory iron sights, and the under-barrel tubular magazine.  The 39A Mountie was the perfect choice for someone wanting a more compact version of the Model 39A, and it quickly proved itself to be just as reliable and accurate.  This particular example is serial number L15937 and as you can see from the pictures, it has obviously been lightly-used and well cared for over the years.  It is a 100% all-original gun except for the two drilled and tapped scope base holes previously mentioned.  The original gloss blue factory finish is very atrractive, showing only some light finish wear that is mainly concentrated on the bottom of the receiver, inside the lever, on the sides of the hammer, and on some of the high-edges.  There are no bad spots or eyesores, and all of the metal parts have a consistent attractive patina.  The bore in this Marlin is bright and in excellent condition.  The Micro-Groove rifling is still crisp and sharp and there are no visible imperfections whatsoever.  The original iron sights are still in-place and in excellent condition, including the often-missing front sight hood.  The original stock set on this Mountie is in excellent condition, with both the forearm and buttstock completely free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage/dings.  The Walnut shows only some very light wear and handling marks, and all of the stock hardware is intact and in great shape including the original Marlin buttplate and white spacer.  This 39A Mountie has never had holes drilled for sling swivel studs and the original Marlin "bullseye" is still in place in the keel of the buttstock.  The action on this Mountie is smooth, slick, and precise.  We have had this little carbine apart and the internals are extremely clean and free from mechanical wear.  It appears that this gun has been fired very little since leaving the factory.  All of the controls on this rifle are in perfect working order, and we have no doubt that it will still function 100% like the day it left the factory over 66 years ago.  If you have been looking for a neat vintage rimfire rifle for your collection this scarce Marlin Model 39A Mountie would be an excellent choice.  Not only should it continue to be an excellent long-term investment, but as long as you are careful you could still shoot this one without harming it's investment value.
