Very rare Winchester Model 1894 full deluxe rifle recently acquired from a Montana estate, where the rifle was with the same family since it was ordered new from the factory in its current configuration by the last owner's grandfather, verified by Cody Museum email - rifle, caliber 25-35 WCF, 1/2 octagon barrel, full magazine, set trigger, checkered stock, pistol grip, Lyman hunting front and rear (tang) sights, and NO REAR SEAT. Ordering no rear sight dovetail was a special order option very seldom done and actually cost the customer an extra $1. Not going to say it's one of a kind but there can't be very many like it.
CONDITION: Barrel, mag tube and receiver show about 20% original thinning blue. Hammer, lever, butt plate and fore end cap basically have silvered out with traces of the original case hardening present on the hammer and lever. Bore is very good with excellent rifling but a little dull in the grooves, about a 7.5 of 10. Action is crisp and the half cock safety works as it should. Double set trigger also functions properly. I have fired this rifle and it feeds/functions/fires perfectly and was really fun with that set trigger! Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks, no extra holes, never sanded or refinished. Original style "H" checkering shows some wear, especially on the fore arm from carry, but is all there and has never been freshened. Original Lyman #4 hunting front sight and #1 combination rear sight properly marked "DA" on underside are still present. No extra holes in the top tang with all of the factory blue present there. Did not attempt to remove butt stock for fear of damaging it, but I did take off the butt plate - butt plate has assembly # 6711 at toe and rear of butt stock is marked "94" and "6711" in the wood. Cody Museum email sheet will be included with this fine rifle. Grades NRA Antique Very Good and one heck of a special order 1894 to put away in your collection!
