Over the last decade Ansley H. Fox’s double guns have become the most desirable vintage American double guns on the planet.  And there is good reason, as Michael McIntosh points out in his book A.H. FOX  “THE FINEST GUN IN THE WORLD”; the Fox guns are supremely balanced, extremely reliable and simply built guns with classic good looks.  There are a LOT of 12ga. A Grade Fox guns available to own so how do you choose which one to buy?  Most have been restocked, poorly restored, heavily used, stocks cut and pads added, buggered up screws from hack gunsmithing attempts, or have characteristics that just don’t fit your needs.  It is rare when you find a Fox that has been preserved in its original configuration, has strong original factory condition, and WEIGHS 6 3/4LBS!  For investment and enjoyment of use and ownership finding nice original Fox guns is what makes the most sense.  This is what we have here in this Fox A Grade 12ga. sn30933 built in Philadelphia PA in 1925.  This nice Fox is a gorgeous, wholly original, high condition Fox with 65% vivid factory case color, engraving still sharp, with perfect screws, a trigger guard retaining 90% of the factory charcoal blue, the HIGHLY DESIRABLE 28” NUMBER 4 WEIGHT BARRELS (Fox’s lightest weight barrel contour for upland field guns) displaying 98% factory blue and perfect mirror bores, and the European walnut stocks showing figure, crisp factory original checkering, and terminating in a hard rubber buttplate (the gun has a 7/8” pad already fitted to the gun and comes with the purchase in case you need a longer LOP, see photos).  THIS IS THE KIND OF GUN THAT THE UPLAND BIRD HUNTER SEEKS OUT FOR LONG WALKS OVER HILL AND DALE.  Finding any American 12ga. s x s that weighs in at 6 3/4lbs. and balances dead on the hinge pin and is dynamic in hand is a rare find.  The mechanics of the gun are in perfect working order.  The barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face with the top lever right of center, and the wood-to-metal fit is superb.  The only thing seemingly altered on this gun is the chokes which are now a very useful IC/LM which are very versatile chokes for upland game and sporting clays.  With all the vintage sporting clays shoots popping up across the country, this is a great Fox to show off at the club.  It will be a long time before another Fox like this one shows itself for sale.  This is a gun you can use and enjoy and it will continue to gain value.  Thanks for looking!
