Harpers Ferry Model 1855 musket was manufactured by Harpers Ferry Armories from 1857-1861 with a total of 12158 made. Lock marking is an eagle motif on tape primmer compartment lid. US on tang of buttplate. Inspector initials on left side of stock. This model proved one of the staple arms of the Civil War, and was the first US martial arm firing the Minie bullet in .58 caliber.
