Description:
This is an absolutely fantastic Colt 1851 Navy, this example has it all from condition, rarity, and historicness to even uniqueness. The inscription bears the name "B. Brandieth" The inscription is no doubt factory, as the silver is inside the inscription from when they first put the silver on the guard and backstrap. The barrel measures just over 5" in length, this alteration was likely done at the factory or was done per a special order request however I cannot confirm that, There are some short barrel special order Navies out there but they are few and far between. Wilson wrote an article on them once but I do not recall on where that was done. Overall condition of this Colt is exceptional with a good amount of original blue still on the barrel. The cylinder scene is almost perfect with an easily legible "Engraved by W.L. Ormsby, New York". The frame retains much of the muted color case hardened finish, These early Navies never had vibrant case colors on the frame, they were all very muted colors from the day of manufacture. There is case colors remaining on the rear of the hammer. Both the Trigger Guard and backstrap retain all of their original silver finish. The grip retains virutally all of its original factory finish as well. All matching serial numbers on the cylinder, loading lever, barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap. The barrel has a New York Address. Mechanical function is excellent. B. Brandieth needs to be researched further, there was once a letter of documentation with this gun on who he was and what his accomplishments were but was unfortunately lost when my good friend passed away, his family could not locate the paperwork. This Navy has it all and is one of my top 3 favorite Colts Ive had the pleasure of handling this year. Feel free to contact for more photographs or if any questions, email, call or text works fine. Shipping is $25 Plus actual insurance. Thank You!
