Lock mechanics fine. C SHARPS PAT OCT 5th 1852 on lock. W S LAWRENCE PAT APRIL 12TH 1859 also on lock. Metal parts not pitted, have smooth age patina. Oil finished walnut stocks. Correct folding rear sight. Serial number identifies this carbine was issued to Samuel Butler during the Civil War. He was in Company B 10th Illinois Cavalry.
