Description:
This is a very nice example of commercial-production Sauer & Sohn Model 38H pistol in .32 ACP manufactured during 1941 in Nazi Germany.  This gun is not an import and almost certainly a war trophy brought to the States by a returning American G.I. after WW2.  This particular gun is all-matching and original except for the grips, which appear to be high quality reproductions.  These Model 38H commonly have reproduction grips as the original factory grips became quite fragile after several decades.  The Sauer & Sohn Model 38H was quite an advanced pistol in it's day.  It is a blow-back operated design that incorporates a fully hidden hammer and features a slide mounted safety as well as a frame-mounted cocking/decocking lever on the left side.  This allowed the user to cock the gun with one hand when ready to fire for the first shot for a single-action trigger pull and better accuracy, as well as de-cocking the gun safely after racking a round into the chamber.  This was the only pistol in German military service that had this feature.  The Sauer 38H proved itself a very capable sidearm and was well-liked by the German soldiers and civilians that carried them.  This particular Sauer 38H has a lot of the original gloss-blue factory finish intact, showing only some light finish wear and small spots of prior rust scattered about.  The grip straps are pretty good as well, showing only light wear.  As you can see from the pictures, the gun is still attractive and shows a nice consistent patina that you would expect to see on a WW2 "trophy gun" that has been used and carried.  The bore in this 38H is excellent, bright with strong rifling and no visible imperfections.  All of the factory stampings are clear and visible, and the three "Eagle N" commercial German proofs are all intact and clear on the frame, slide, and barrel.  All of the numbered parts are matching including the frame, slide, and breech block.  As mentioned earlier, the grips on this gun are repros and in excellent condition.  Both grips are free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major wear, and both sides are nice and tight to the gun without any wiggle.  Most people would not be able to tell that these high-quality repro grips are not factory original.  The action on this Sauer is slick and smooth, and all of the controls are in perfect working order.  This Sauer should function perfectly just like the day it left the factory in the early 1940's.  This pistol comes complete with one factory original 8-round magazine, properly marked on the bottom of the baseplate.  This nice Sauer & Sohn Model 38H would be an excellent addition to any WW2 weapons collection or a very interesting and neat concealed-carry piece.
