Description:
This gun was made before Mario Abbiatico and Remo Salvinelli changed their numbering system, and were in transition to building some of the world’s best guns. This example represents a combination of fine gunmaking and high quality, tasteful embellishment. 26″ Chopper lump bbls are fitted with slightly raised, concave game rib. Side of left bbl is engraved “Armi Famars”. Bbl flats are stamped with early S&A logos and “FAMARS” along with SN and 1974 Italian nitro proofs. Rear lump is stamped with first names of craftsmen involved in the making of this fine gun; Remo (Salvinelli) and Franco. Coin finished, sidelock action is nicely filed and features non-automatic safety (S engraved), bushed strikers, and single non-selective trigger. Action is engraved with near full coverage small scroll as background to floral swags which surround fine bulino vignette of a pointer frozen mid-stride in background behind fence, as he scents a covey of quail in foreground on bottom of action. Left lockplate portrays a flock of mallards flying across open marshland. Right lock depicts a wisp of snipe as they dive toward edge of marsh. All three scenes are signed “Galeazzi”, Angelo, highly regarded master engraver, noted for his fine Bulino work. Single beaded trigger guard has scroll matching that on action. SN is on tang. Lightly streaked European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14-1/4″ over checkered wood butt, and features drop points and point pattern checkering with line borders. Matching semi-beavertail ejector forend has Anson release, and Famars gold shield inlet on central uncheckered diamond. Bore diameter: left -.623, right – .622. Bore restrictions: left – .015 (mod), right – .007 (IC). Drop at heel: 1-7/16″, drop at comb: 1-3/8″. Cast: Neutral. Weight: 7 lbs. 0 oz. LOP: 14-1/4″. CONDITION: Excellent, near to new, with only the faintest of handling and assembly marks on wood and metal finishes, appears essentially unfired since proof. Noted engraver Angelo Galeazzi passed away in 2012.
