Description:
This is the earliest Remington Whitmore Model 1874 I have ever seen. It has all matching serial numbers, #19. The original, engraved barrel address is truly a unique early feature. It is also engraved around the patent dates right in front of the lifter. The case hardening under the barrel on the frame and on the forearm steel is vivid. The case hardened locks and breech have turned a beautiful silver just like an old 1873 SAA. The 30-inch blued barrels go from blue to a thinning blue and plum color. The bores are in nice condition with a small amount of light pitting. This early hammer shotgun remains tight and the action is as solid as it was in 1874. The hammers cock crisply with a fine release on the triggers. The rebounding fire pins are just as crisp as the rest of the action. The buttstock is solid with no cracks but an inch and one-half above the steel butt plate there are two rack marks, one on each side (pictured) which are period usage. Fortunately, no one has ever tried to work on them. This is a beautiful and early American-made Remington cartridge shotgun that would stand proud in any fine Remington collection.
