Description:
At the onset of WWII, the government was unable to satisfy the demand for fighting knives.  Consequently, many troops either made or commissioned a machine shop or the Navy Seabees to make them a suitable combat knife.  Blades came from spring steel, files, and cut down swords, bayonets and machetes.  Grips from the plexiglass or aluminum of downed aircraft, melted brass casings, or from compressed leather washers.  These knives, made for use in the Theater of Operations, became known as “Theater Knives".

Nice theater knuck that began life as a Mark 1 trench/knuckle knife and has had the blade replaced by what I think is a cut down sword blade.  OAL 11 1/8”.  All tight.

6 7/8” blade has been sharpened and has heavy pitting, but is solid.  What is neat is the prominent markings on the blade.  One side reads “Palermo Sicily 1943”.  The other reads S. G. Hilliard”.  Sharp with good point.

Handle has full ears and is marked as shown.  No real damage except for some wear & dirt.  Butt is flat with no nut.

Nice period sheath fits well, although not original to the knife.  Leather pliable.  Snap works
