Payment Types Accepted: Money Oder Description: I'm offering my original Colt-Burgess rifle for sale. one of 2556 built with a 25.5" octagon barrel. with a Colt semi buck horn sight , serial number 2796. there were only 6403 total built in the 16 months between 1883 and 1885. Slightly more than half built in rifles and the other half in 20" carbines before a Gentlemen's agreement of some sort between Colt & Winchester ended their production of lever rifles . The Lightening pump rifles were built until 1903. The Burgess rifle , designed by Andrew Burgess was only chambered in the popular 44/40 center fire cartridge. It's receiver was only 5 1/4" long compared to the Winchester 1873's 8" receiver making it a full 11 ounces lighter in weight. It held 15 rounds and was a very well built rifle .the loading gate slides forward which caused many of the forearms to be worn thin or worn completely through , this one is in great condition. Has a sliding trap door butt plate but sorry to say no cleaning rod. This rifle is in very good condition , the wood and metal are aged to a beautiful brown patina. The bore on this 136 year old rifle is in fine condition . I've shot this rifle using Cowboy Ammo and it cycles and shoots great. Rifle came from northern Montana so maybe spend much of its life in some ranchers rack it sure didn't bouncing around in a wagon . She's an antique so can ship to your door. Shipping is included in asking price SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Colt-Burgess Model: Rifle Serial Number: 2796 Caliber Info: 44/40 Bore: Good Condition: very nice Metal Condition: Excellent Wood Condition: Excellent Bore Condition: very good Barrel Type: octagon Action: Lever Triggers: Single Butt Pad: Crescent trap door Sights: Semi-buckhorn Manufacture Date: 1884 |
