This is a beautiful all-original Enfield Royal Ordnance Factory No.5 Mk.1 Jungle Carbine in .303 British manufactured in 1945. This outstanding example is not import marked and is 100% original with intact all-original factory finishes. All of the numbered parts on this Jungle Carbine are matching except for the detachable magazine. The British Jungle Carbine was designed as a lightweight and handy carbine for the hot jungle and tropic environments in the Pacific theatre and Burma/India. With an overall length of under 40" inches and a total weight of 7 pounds, the Jungle Carbine was substantially smaller than the standard SMLE or No.4 Mk.1 which were both over 44" inches in length and almost 9 pounds in weight. The No.5 Mk.1 proved to be a great design, and the troops issued these weapons were generally pleased with their combat performance. This particular example is in exclelent condition inside and out, with the original stove-black factory finish rating 95%+/- and the bore clean and bright with perfect sharp rifling throughout. All of the factory markings are crisp and legible on the barrel, receiver, and bolt. The original stock is in excellent condition as well, showing only minor handling and storage marks in the wood and is free from any cracks, chips, repairs, or major damage. All of the original stock hardware is intact and in good condition, including the factory buttplate with the rubber recoil pad. The action on this Enfield is smooth and slick, and the bolt tuns into battery perfectly. All of the controls on this carbine are in perfect working order, including the original adjustable rear sight. This Jungle Carbine should still function 100% like the day it originally left the ROF Fazakerely factory 75 years ago. This No.5 Mk.1 comes complete with it's original British Military issuesling in very good condition.
