It was made in 1874. Despite being almost 150 years old it retains 95-98% of all its oringinal finishes. My guess is that it was used a few times after it was made, and then was stored properly for the next 100 plus years! My camera simply does not do justice to the beauty and elegance of this gun. This is truly a "Best Quality" gun. Although the gun is not marked the "Premier", it has many features found only on Scott's A grade guns. I will mention a few: highest grade damascus barrels, highly figured circassian walnut wood, beautiful & delicate scroll and game scene engraving. Although very few Scott guns were signed by the engraver, this engraving was executed by a Master! The action is stamped with Purdey's Patent 1104 (4623)' To reinforce lock-up Scott also used the Treble Grip Dollshead. This gun is built on their largest and longest frame for a 10 ga. gun. . Only 4 & 8 bore frames were larger. Notice the huge bolsters on rhe bottom of the frame. Another special feature is Scott's Patented" Adjustable Lump". You can see this by looking at the bottom of the barrel luggs. There are 2 screws intertwined. Loosening the small screw allows you to move the big lug, thus tightening the action, if it should shoot loose. You can see these screws have not been touched since installed in 1874. The gun is "on face" and locks-up tight as new with or without the forend attached, Hammers are rebounding. Both locks are crisp and strong. Bores are like new (Bright & Shiny) I do not have a wall thickness gauge, but I am certain that they are just as they left the factory.
