Description:
An all original American Arms Co., double barrel deringer.  It is a superposed, .41 caliber rimfire.  The gun has a brass frame, iron barrels, and rosewood grips.  The barrels rotate to fire the second shot.  Each has its own blade front sight.  These derringers were produced from 1866 to 1878, with a total production, of this model, to be under 400 pieces.  On the top flat of one barrel is stamped, “PAT. OCT 31. 1865 – JUNE 19. 1866” and the top flat of the second barrel is stamped, “AMERICAN ARMS CO. BOSTON. MASS”.  The serial number is stamped in the butt of the back strap. The number “6” is quite deep with what appears to be two additional numbers that are extremely faint.  Norm Flayderman has designated this as an 8A – 010 model.

Caliber: .41 rimfire
Overall Length: 5.625″
Barrel Length: 2.625″

Condition: Iron parts have a nice untouched dark age patina with some minor pitting – Brass frame and backstrap have a dark mustard colored age patina, with heavy file marks on the butt strap (probably to remove some dings) – Grips have several large chips, but have never been cleaned or sanded – Action is good
