The metal surfaces of this pistol have toned to a dark brown patina showing some areas of very fine pinprick pitting scattered about. Bore measures about .680". There are some numbers and other small markings stamped at the breech end of the barrel that are difficult to discern and the "Manuf. Roy. De Maubeuge" lockplate markings are only partially legible. The brass hardware has toned to a nice deep ocher patina showing some scattered light dings and dents and the sideplate is clearly marked "C-H-No 276". The nosecap retainer spring is missing but the nosecap is still very tight and securely fitted. The smooth walnut stock remains in about very good condition showing a thin 3" crack at the right edge, a few small drying cracks along the butt, scattered dings and handling marks from the years of field use. The arm is in the original flint with the original cock has been , and apears to be a period replacement. The current cock is of rather Mediterranean styling, maybe captured by Mediterranean pirates and put to use? with fancy designs on the face. That being said the internal lock parts are in very lovely condition and, along with the lock screws, are matching by assembly code. A simple steel ramrod is included. A rather attractive French pistol that is worthy of your collection. When buying a gun always have it examined by a competent gunsmith before shooting.
