Description:
JOHN BARD INDIANA LONG RIFLE Antique .38 Caliber Half Stock PERCUSSION 1860

1860s Percussion Plains Rifle From Brazil, IN!

Here we present an antique John Bard Half Stock Percussion Long Rifle, made circa the early 1860s in Brazil, Indiana. Bard at the age of 10, worked as a blacksmith, later also learning the trade of wheelwright. He began making firearms from just before the start of the Civil War through 1894.

This rifle’s stout octagonal barrel is in .38 caliber, small enough to take small to medium sized game or to defend the homestead against unwanted aggression. Great maple half-stock. Double set triggers.

The overall condition is good. The mainspring is weak but the action could be worked on and gotten working again. The bore is in good shape. “JOHN BARD” is engraved atop the barrel. “RH” appears to be read on the lock. Here is a great half stock plains style rifle for the collection!

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 32-1/4 inches.

Caliber: .38

Overall condition as seen in photos.
