Description:
An above average example of an 1842 U.S. martial, single shot, smoothbore, percussion “horse” pistol. It is stamped “U.S. H. ASTON” on the lock plate, just in front of the hammer, and ” MIDD TN CONN 1850? vertically, behind the hammer. The walnut stock is clearly marked with two cartouches stamped in the left side. Several parts are stamped with inspector’s initials, including the barrel lug, which is also dated “1850”. It still retains its original captured, swivel type, iron ramrod. Caliber: .54 percussion Overall Length: 14.30? Barrel Length: 8.50? Condition: Iron parts are a grey age patina with some spotting, and light pitting, especially at the breech area – Brass furniture has a medium mustard color age patina – Stock is excellent with no cracks and strong cartouches – Action is crisp – Bore is good.
