Description:
An original French, model 1822, officer’s cavalry sword/sabre. It still retains its original iron scabbard. The hilt/guard is embelished brass, and the grip is carved horn. The back edge of the sabre is hand engraved, in script, with the manufacture, date of 1878, and model. Overall Length in Scabbard: 43.40? Sword Length: 41.90? Blade Length: 36.40? Condition: Blade is bright with some scattered staining and retains its original leather washer – Brass has a good age patina and traces of original gold gilt – Grip is missing the wire wrap and has serveral beetle bites – Scabbard has a dark age patina with some rust and dents
