Description:
General Specs: Winchester, Year 1981+/-, 20 Gauge, 6lbs 5oz
Serial Number: K280138E

The Winchester Model 101 was introduced in 1963 and the original design ended production in 1989.  There is another more modern Model 101 that is a different action and design that is made in Belgium and Portugal, not to be confused with this vintage, original model made in the Kodensha firearms facility in Japan, known for producing extremely well made firearms.  The original Model 101 is an obvious copy of the famous Browning Superposed built in Belgium at the FN plant from the 1930’s into the 1980’s.  Just look at the lock up of the broad horizontal locking bolt that intercepts the barrel lug at the bottom of the action…Superposed.  Look at the safety system…Superposed.  The Model 101 was, and is, a solid, attractive over/under with a hand-engraved receiver and walnut stocks, nicely checkered and with American stock dimensions.  This Winchester Grand European Featherweight was catalogued by Winchester as a Model 501, but most know the gun as a Model 101, built around 1981, and in SUPERB CONDITION.  The gun was shipped with 25 ½” chrome-lined barrels with fixed IC/M chokes, breech end of the barrels fully jeweled, highly figured 3X American walnut with comfortable stock dimensions and a factory pad.  The mechanics are perfect, with strong well-timed ejectors, crisp trigger pulls, the barrels tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face and the opening lever well right of center.  The Grand European Featherweight was the top of the line in the Winchester upland over/under/101 category with near full coverage hand-cut rose and scroll engraving, 24LPI hand-cut checkering, bright coin finished receiver, and trim field style forend.  If you like top quality and condition, this is your gun.  It is a solid 99.5% example without a mark in the wood, some very minor loss of blue on the hard edge of the vent rib, two miniscule pin head marks in the barrel blue, and a 99% trigger guard fully engraved.  The gun came to us without a case.  We have a period correct green canvas Winchester case available for $225 added cost if you wish to have a hard case.  Weighing just 6lbs. 3oz. and balanced perfectly in hand, the gun is perfect for the field or the clays course, and affordable to own.  These guns are going up in value, so buy with the confidence of knowing you are investing, not spending!  Thanks for looking.
