Description:
FRENCH Napoleonic M1777/AN IX DRAGOON Musket

Made Circa 1800 at the Arsenal at TULLE

Here we present an antique Tulle Arsenal French Model 1777 Year (or Pattern) IX Flintlock Dragoon Musket, made circa 1800. Throughout the Revolutionary and Napoleonic campaigns, the great majority of infantry, both the French and their opponents were armed with smoothbore flintlock large bore muskets. France used the Model 1777 and its slightly modified successor, the Model 1777/Year IX, which was used at Waterloo. The original Model 1777 musket succeeded the musket of the System 1763-1766 series. The Model 1777 was developed by General Jean-Baptiste de Gribeauval of the French Ordnance. By royal decree on February 26, 1777, manufacturing began and continued through 1819 including all variants. This was a tumultuous time for France, defined by coup, revolution, and international war. This represents an amazing and world-changing piece of history!

The lockplates were stamped with the place of manufacture, with this particular gun made at the Tulle Arsenal. This one is also marked throughout with the maker’s name “Leferre”. Small spangled inspection marks may also be observed throughout.

The overall condition is very good. The iron and brass hardware has an even patina. The markings are clear. The walnut stock is in very nice shape and has the cheek cutout on the left side of the stock. The bore is smooth and in great condition. The action is excellent, very strong. This is a scarce French musket to find in the US and it remains in fantastic condition.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 40-1/2 inches.
