Description:
Beautiful example of one of the earliest Colt cartridge revolvers. Described in the book "Variations of COLT'S" by Breslin, Pirie & Price as a Type 5 - New Model Police Breech Loading Pistol with a new 3 1/2" round, solid barrel. While the barrel was made specifically for use as a cartridge gun, the frame on this Colt was converted from percussion. The serial number is 305306 and matches on the barrel, frame, triggerguard and backstrap with the last four digits on the cylinder and last five digits on the arbor. The wedge is not matching and is marked 14101. The serial number is in the upper range of the 1849 Pocket Model frame range and has the new breech loading patent dates stamp over the remnants of "COLTS PATENT" marking. The original .31 CAL has been over stamped with .36 CAL. The factory conversion markings are all clear and sharp. Nearly all of the original nickel plating remains intact. The screws retain the majority of their fire blue finish. The hammer has vivid case colors. The action functions properly and the bore is excellent. The original wood grips fit perfectly and have nearly all of the original varnish. This example would be nearly impossible to improve on. Price includes insurance and shipping in the continental United States where legal. A three day inspection is offered with full refund if returned unfired in the same condition. Buyer to pay return shipping. Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional photos.
