Listing my Springfield Model 1896 Krag Rifle , serial number 62973, 30" barrel , sling swivels , complete with cartouche on stock and proof marking rear of trigger guard , no bayonet or cleaning kit. rifle is in really nice original condition , first bolt action rifle to be used by U.S. Army in 1892 but because of the slow rate of reloading it gave way to the 03 Springfield and the 30-06 cartridge by 1903. It was the first smokeless round following the 45/70 govt black powder round used in the trap door Springfields. The model 1896 had the magazine cut off and better rear sight and trap door cleaning kit storage. Nice old military rifle in very good above average condition ,nice shooter I might add. This model was replaced by the 1898 model, will ship as antique , shipping is $50. to lower 48 with insurance.
