Solid 416 stainless steel frame with 2-tone DLC Black and Satin finish, mosaic abalone inlays, 3d machined custom titanium clip, matching 2-tone DLC Black and Satin blade. Individually serial numbered of only 15 made. $1,400 Retail ~ This latest release from Protech is a long awaited LTD production favorite designed by notorious Jeff Harkins (Triton DA OTF Maker) and produced by Protech in California. These knives so crazy special beyond awesome - very few makers will put the time in a piece like this with hidden mechanisms that need fine tuning so that everyone everywhere no matter what can enjoy an auto knife.The ATAC’s defining feature is its dual action nature. Here, the “dual action” refers to the fact that there are two ways of opening the knife – one obvious, one more subtle. Users can of course use the decorative thumb disk to kick off the ATAC’s action, but a second mechanism is hidden beneath the front scale. By squeezing the scale in the correct location, the spring is engaged and the ATAC blade swings out. Either way users open it, the blade locks into place with a liner lock, and must be closed manually. The secret to activation is not easily discovered and the knife appears to be a nice custom thumb release right up to the moment you press the lower quadrant of the top ABALONE panel and the blade springs to life under full auto power. Function under thumb power you will find this to be a finely tuned liner lock with a super tight lock up and a razor sharp 154CM blade. Jewelry quality Paua Abalone inlays are absolutely STUNNING, and a Two Tone blade compliments the solid STEEL frame topped off with the precision 3D milled titanium pocket clip.
