Description: Very late S/N'd Transition era Winchester Model 70 in the highly popular and versatile .270 Win. caliber. S/N 121*** with matching scribed bolt made in 1949. This is one of the last transition period rifles with the Pre War style "clover leaf" tang ever produced. Condition is quite nice at about 96-97% original finishes overall with only light handling marks. This is a nice dark stock with a slight grain pattern. There are no noteworthy dents, gouges or cracks anywhere. The rifle has a factory installed Lyman 48 WJS receiver sight with Lyman 12S filler plug in the rear sight boss dovetail. There is absolutely no elevator mark on top of the barrel, suggesting that this rifle has never worn the more commonly issued 22g rear sight. This is the correct Lyman 48 style introduced in 1947 with the scalloped base which did not require a notch to be cut in the stock. The sight's component numbers are all matching. There are no marks whatsoever from the receiver sight's base, which is well clear of the wood, nor is there a bore hole from the elevation screw. This is a very clean and somewhat unique rifle in a highly useful caliber. SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes |
