Description:
***   SOLD   ***   Very handsome Boss 12 bore sidelock ejector with 29” barrels, fabulous crisp Sumner engraving, a Boss 1894 patent single trigger, the later 1897 version of the Boss patent ejectors, and a rolled edge trigger guard. A full two-thirds of all Boss shotguns made since 1894 were made with the Boss patent single trigger! Quite a testimony to its reliability. This gun, number 4699, was delivered in 1899 along with the other two guns of the trio to a Scottish lord, Sir John Alexander Miller, the Third Baronet of Manderston. Beautifully figured French walnut straight grip stock and forend. Weighs 6lb 12oz and handles like a dream. Recently refurbished it is in solid mechanical condition. Tight on face. Ejectors timed.  Cased in a canvas and leather Brady case with maker's label, Abercombrie & Fitch snap caps, pewter oil bottle, two-piece walnut cleaning rod and attachments.   ***   The 29” nitro proofed barrels sleeved to original length are chambered for 2-1/2” shotshells. The bluing is in very good condition with a nice soft patina. The rib is a solid concave game style rib with the number “3” engraved in gold on top at the breech end. The right barrel is bored 0.728 and has a constriction of 0.006 for Skeet choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.031. The left barrel is bored 0.731 with a constriction of 0.015 for Light Modified choke. Minimum wall thickness is 0.028.   ***   The straight grip stock and forend are made from highly figured French walnut. The stock has recently been professionally refinished and the checkering freshened. The stock dimensions are 14-3/4” to a 1” recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 2”. Cast off for the righthand shot.   ***   This gun is in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. There are a few handling marks on the metal and wood from normal usage. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a Boss at a very reasonable price. If you have ever shot over a Scottish grouse moor then you already know why you should own this gun.  Great for game and clays   ***   Buyer is responsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. Requires an FFL. I give a three-day non-firing inspection and will only accept returns if gun is not as described.
