1 of Fewer Than 3,000 Made; With “BULL DURHAM” Fob!
Here we present an antique Frank Wesson Small Frame “Watch Fob” Swivel Breech Deringer Pistol with Ivory Grips, made circa the late 1860s to 1880. Less than 3,000 of these desirable pistols are estimated to have been manufactured in two variations during this period. This is the second type and has small cone front sights, "FRANK WESSON WORCESTER. MASS. PT. DEC. 15/68" on the side of the barrels, the serial number on the left side of the frame, a ring hammer, and smooth grips. This example comes with a fine custom-fit picture box and an attached chain with a “Bull Durham” fob. Bull Durham smoking tobacco was widely advertised and was one of the world's best-known American products from the late 1860s to the early twentieth century.
The overall condition is very good. The action is strong. The bores are in good condition. All the markings are clear. The grips are in fine shape. This example includes the watch fob chain that’s adorned with a brass cast bull that reads “BULL/DURHAM”. The custom box includes illustrations and directions of this neat little .22 derringer. This is an extremely rare and extraordinary set that will surely be a conversation starter!
