Description:
General Specs: Browning, Year 1968, 12 Gauge, 6lbs 7oz, Chokes IC/M
Serial Number: 83931 S8

The Browning Superposed is one of the finest over/under shotguns in history and one of John Browning’s most prolific designs. Produced in plain jane field grades to the most elaborately engraved and finely stocked shotguns ever seen, production of the Browning Superposed was done in Belgium, running strong from 1931 through 1977 when regular production stopped. In 1967 Browning introduced the Superposed "SUPERLIGHT" in the 12ga. and finally was born a true upland bird gun. Available only in the Grade 1 until 1971 when all the engraving patterns were catalogued, the Superlight was an instant success amongst upland hunters. A typical Browning Lightning 12ga. weighed about 7 1/4lbs. At 6lbs. 7oz. and balanced perfectly between the hands, this 12 bore Superlight is over 3/4lb. lighter! This is a dynamic upland bird gun, with its straight hand stock, rounded frame, and slim field style forend that can be carried all day without fatigue. This gun, sn83931 S8 built in 1968, is in as new restored condition with no visible wear on the gun. The 26 1/2" IC/M choked barrels have perfect bores and are tight as new on the hinge pin and breach face. The wood is lightly figured with no cracks or repairs, perfect checkering and wood to metal fit, superb finish and a 14 3/8” LOP to factory butt plate. They only produced 4500 or so 12ga. Superposed Superlight guns during the entire production run at the FN plant, compared to over 260,000 total Superposed produced from 1931 to 1977, so it is not a common gun, especially one found in the same configuration as shipped from the factory with no pad added or choke alterations and still in gorgeous condition. Highly desired by upland hunters that are in the know, it is rare to even find a nice one for sale. There are few Over/Under 12ga. shotguns that weigh under 7lbs. let alone under 6 1/2lbs. This gun will work equally well on the sporting clays course as well. See below for the specifications of the gun. The Browning Superposed Superlight 12ga. guns have been going up in value in the last few years, so they are a great investment quality gun that will be worth more in the future as you care for it and enjoy its use.
