Description:
EARLY AMERICAN Antique FLINTLOCK MILITIA Musket Smoothbore .73 Caliber

Late-1700s, Early-1800s

Here we present an antique Early American Flintlock Militia Musket/Fusil, made circa the late-18th Century. Such muskets are well known and documented as being used by local militias such as the Minutemen in the 13 original colonies. They tended toward the Brown Bess in form and function, as these were British colonies after all. Gun makers would have been able to copy parts in addition to scavenging those off captured muskets.

This one features a pinned 44-1/2 inch, .73 caliber, part-round barrel in a full-length stock. The trigger guard and butt plate finials as well as the flat side plate match examples of the Short Land Pattern Brown Bess as depicted by Neumann and Kravic. The name at the back of the lockplate is quite worn. A “P” proof mark is visible on the left side of the breech. Assembly type hashmarks on the underside of the barrel. The wooden ramrod is equipped with a worm.

The overall condition is good. The action is strong. The bore is smooth and dark. The stock is solid and in good shape. Weather/climate related crack at the buttplate is stable and immobile. If you are looking for an early American flintlock musket to display or put in your collection, look no further.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 44-5/8 inches.

Caliber: .735

Overall condition as seen in photos.
