Description:
A great antique diamond willow cane. Created from a single piece of diamond willow, it has a carved bulbous handle on top that is about 2 inches in diameter. There are thirteen diamonds running down the shaft with some inside another. The piece was made without a ferrule. (The unusual diamond pattern in this type of willow is caused by a naturally occurring fungus. The raw diamonds are then enhanced by shaping and staining. American Indians have been making these canes for hundreds of years. The particular Diamond Willow trees are indigenous primarily to the Missouri Valley of America. The overall length is 34 1/2 inches it has a few cracks in the diamond but is in good stable using condition. It was made in the last quarter of the 19th Century, and it is a great example fashioned by Sioux Indians at the Crow Creek Reservation.
