Early 19th Century AMERICAN EAGLE Pommel Sword
With Ivory Grip & Ornate Blade
Here we present an antique American Eagle Sword, manufactured circa the early-1800s. This style of sword was popularized during the American Revolutionary War and was one of the signature weapons of the young United States through the War of 1812 and into the 1830s. This one features antique ivory handle with braided wire wrap. The guard is very nicely decorated with a federal eagle. The blade was lightly engraved and gilded with a nitre blue finish, some of which remains. The scabbard too is engraved.
The overall condition is good. The brass is dark with age. The scabbard has been dented in several places and has a crack about 8 inches from the end. This is a very handsome sword that was almost certainly the private purchase of an American officer.
